For most offices the format is fairly standard – desk – office chair – computer. The office manager will invariably have been on a course about “ergonomics at work” and the workstation most employees will have been given some thought. It’s in a company’s interest to look after their employees . Thats fine – when employees work in the office but the rules (yes there are rules!) for office furniture layout are all too often not taken into consideration for the home worker.
In the office lying on the floor with a load of papers around you may, at the very least, strike your co-workers as a little odd. But much like there is no one to stop the home worker from staying in their pyjamas all day, there is no one to stop a home worker staying in bed with a laptop. Or balancing one on the arm of a sofa (imagine the stress this places on the back). If you like you could even read your meeting notes in the bath (the horror!).
The point is this; working from home can be a godsend. Invariably there will be less distractions (though many parents would disagree) and one can save time and the environment by not commuting. But care should always be taken to ensure that you have a proper working environment setup. Your health is important as is your comfort.
