Week 3 ergonomic focus : Wrists

Back to articles

Third in our weekly Ergonomics focus is the Wrists. Stresses such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are a common side effect from strain on the wrists while sitting at your desk. You can probably picture it … you’re sitting at your desk and if you have no wrist support you can sometimes find yourself resting your wrists on the desk while you use your keyboard. This ‘contact stress’ as it’s known can be alleviated by using a palm support. This is essentially a cushion for your wrists and tends to be either made from a gel or padded material. It absorbs the pressure you put on your wrists and encourages healthy and natural movement.

Your posture can also help to alleviate the pressure – ideally you should try to keep your wrists straight with the bottom of your elbows sitting at around keyboard height.
