This week’s ergonomics focus: Eyes

Back to articles

For those not so familiar with the term, Ergonomics is the science of designing the job, equipment, and workplace to fit the worker. Ergonomic consideration in the workplace is essential if you want to avoid reduced working capacity due to injuries arising from poor seating, poor lighting etc.

In our series of articles we’ll focus on a different area of ergonomics each week; giving you the best practice guidelines and also recommending products, which can help you create a more comfortable work experience.

Week 1: Eyes

For optimum comfort, ideally we should be sitting at arm’s length away from our computer screens with the top of the monitor at, or just below eye level.

Similarly any aids we use, for example copy-holders etc. should be positioned in line with your monitor thereby reducing the need to strain your neck/eyes.

If you’re monitor is falling short of the recommendations above, there are a number of risers which fit either your monitor or lap top which will raise your screen to the optimum level.

Next week it’s all about the shoulders …
