How to stop the chair squeaking

Back to articles

You’ve just bought your perfect office chair. It looks professional and is extremely comfortable. However, there’s just one small problem that’s spoiling it all for you… it’s the irritating squeak! Even if you manage to ignore the squeaks, every time you shift yourself on the seat, you can always sense everyone else’s annoyance at being distracted, even if it is for a second. There are 2 solutions: either sit stock still during the whole 8 hours (slightly ridiculous!), or fix the squeak. We know which option we would choose, and if you like to make life easier for yourself, just follow these few simple steps:

All you need is:

    * Newspaper

    * A can of WD40 multipurpose lubricant

  1. Place sheets of newspaper on the floor and create several layers of it. Make sure there are enough layers of newspaper to prevent the oil from seeping into your floor- it can be a pain to remove the oil from the floor.
  2. Turn the chair onto it’s side. Use the can of WD-40 lubricant and spray it onto the hinges that connect the chair base to the seat. Make sure you cover every hinge and bolt at this connecting point.
  3. Flip the chair back to upright position. Sit on it and slowly swivel the chair around for a couple of minutes to ensure that all the WD-40 lubricant works into all the tight areas. The squeaking should gradually disappear.
  4. If the squeaking continues, then repeat the first 3 steps again. If this still fails to work, then it may be time for you to treat yourself to nice new office chair! With the lowest prices around, you are sure to make great savings.
