How to remove tape from a whiteboard

Back to articles

Whiteboards are used as a communication tool in various organizations ranging from hospitals to schools and business to homes. The whiteboard requires the use of a type of non-permanent marker that’s easily wipeable with a soft cloth. However, there are occasions where people may tape notes or other documents onto the whiteboards. This tape will leave residue and fragments that are hard to remove. In order to remove these fragments, you’ll have to gather the following ‘equipment’:

  • Tweezers
  • 2 soft cloths/towels
  • Cooking spray (the chemical that can dissolve the tape)
  • Latex gloves

1. You need to remove as much of the tape off as you can, so use the tweezers to pull the tape from the whiteboard.

2. Use a soft cloth/towel to wipe the board clean.

  1. Apply the cooking spray (any brand) onto the areas that have residue on and leave to sit for about a minute.
  2. Use used cloth/ towel to wipe away the cooking spray and residue.
  3. Dampen the unused cloth with warm water and then wipe the board with it.
